Deadline is exclusively reporting that Kiefer Sutherland has signed on to star in the action thriller The Winter Kills.

The film will focus on Sutherland playing a disgraced cop pursuing the serial killer who murdered his partner ten year ago – and has resurfaced to kill again.

John Stalberg Jr., who is directing the project, released a statement saying:

Kiefer Sutherland is more than just the perfect actor for this film, he’s an absolute legend, and I’m beyond thrilled to match his rare talent with a role that will require every ounce of it. I couldn’t imagine a better team of professionals, including Wyatt Russell and Oliver Hudson — my partners at Slow Burn along with Patrick Rizzotti, David Guglielmo, Paul Johanson and the crack team at XYZ to bring The Winter Kills to life.

The film is written by Ben Floro Carney, and is being produced by Stalberg Jr., Patrick Rizotti, Paul Johansson, David Guglielmo, Wyatt Russell, Oliver Hudson and XYZ Films. The film is scheduled to commence shooting this spring in New Jersey, with deb financing to be provided by Blue Fox Financing, with XYZ Films financing the project and introducing it to buyers at the upcoming European Film Market.
