Deadline is exclusively reporting that HBO Films have acquired the U.S Rights for the docudrama feature Reality, starring Sydney Sweeney as convicted classified document leaker Reality Winner.
.
Reality Winner grew up in Texas and went through the Air Force on her way to becoming a translator for the NSA. She was employed by the military contractor Pluribus International Corporation when she was arrested at twenty-five, and eventually convicted of leaking an intelligence report about Russian meddling in the 2016 elections to the news website The Intercept. She was given the longest prison sentence for leaking unauthorised government information to the media, spending five years and three months in prison.
.
The film just had its world premiere at Berlin International Film Festival last week. The report states that while a premiere date for the film hasn’t been revealed, they believe it’ll be in the near future, so that the film can qualify in time for Emmy consideration and try to capitalise on the momentum of the glowing reviews the film has received in Berlin.
.
Noah Stahl, Brad Becker-Parton, Riva Marker, and Greg Nobile serve as producers, while Ellyn Daniels, Will O’Connor, Daniel Ginsberg, Andrew Beck, Bill Way, Elliott Whitton, Eva Maria Daniels, Philipp Engelhorn, Caitlin Gold and Tina Satter serve as executive producers. David Duque-Estrada and Rita Walsh serve as co-producers.
.
The film is directed by Tina Satter, who co-wrote the screenplay with James Paul Dallas. The film also stars Josh Hamilton, Marchánt Davis, Benny Elledge and John Way.
