Deadline is exclusively reporting that Andrew Garfield, Mia Goth, and Oscar Isaac are in early negotiations to star in Guillermo del Toro’s next live-action project, an adaptation of Frankenstein which he will write and direct.
The film will be based on Mary Shelley’s iconic story, focusing on a gifted scientist named Victor Frankenstein who succeeds in giving life to a being of his own creation, though it is far from the perfect specimen that he imagined it would be.
The report states that sources tell them that del Toro has met with all three actors and each is on board to star, though no formal offers have been made to them as del Toro is still working on the script. Del Toro has been eyeing/developing a Frankenstein project for several years, and after the success of his animated adaptation of Pinocchio at Netflix, he’s now finally getting to do so.
It’s unknown whether his version of Shelley’s story will be a period piece or set in modern times, nor do we know which actor he is aiming to have as Victor or Frankenstein’s monster, though it is believed that Mia Goth will be playing Doctor Frankenstein’s love interest.
