Deadline is exclusively reporting that Garret Dillahunt, Elizabeth Mitchell, Shawn Ashmore and Jessy Schram have signed up to star in the psychological thriller The Huntsman.

The film focuses on a repressed ICU nurse volunteering as a reader for a recovering coma patient, the prime suspect in the savage murders of six young women in a small southwestern town. The suspect’s wife, refusing to believe that her husband is the killer, struggles with the mounting complexities of the investigation. With a dedicated detective trying to solve the mystery before more bodies turn up, numerous other suspects take the case on a spiralling journey.

Shawn Ashmore (whose credits include The Rookie and The Boys) will be playing the role of the nurse, while Garret Dillahunt (whose credits include Where The Crawdads Sing and Hightown) will play the suspected killer. Elizabeth Mitchell (whose credits include Outer Banks and The Santa Clauses) will play the suspected killer’s wife, and Jessy Schram (whose credits include Chicago Med and Shot Caller) will play the role of the detective.

Kyle Kauwika Harris, who is directing the project, released a statement saying:

I’m excited to start shooting this dark and atmospheric story. We live in a world where outward appearances are oftentimes deceiving, and one of the many intriguing aspects about this project was how the script addresses inner and outer identity, and the reasons why someone would be driven to kill, I’m drawn to material that takes the audience to the narrative edge, and with The Huntsman, we have a film that will shake the viewer up.

Frank Malinowski, who fully financed the film, also released a statement saying:

From Sanders’ gripping novel comes an amazing script by Whritner, which, in the hands of our visionary director and a brilliantly talented cast, will come a film that should engage, surprise and thrill the minds and hearts of adult audiences.

Judith Sander’s novel is adapted to script here by Steven Jon Whritner, with the film scheduled to commence production in Oklahoma next month. Whritner will serve as producer on the project under his banner Plymouth Rock Entertainment, and he will serve alongside Jacob Ryan Snovel (SafeHouse Films), Nicholas Clement and Maddison Bullock. Malinowski will serve as executive producer alongside Dillahunt and Sanders.
