Caine: Donnie Yen To Reprise Role For John Wick Spinoff Film

Lionsgate have released the official trailer for the upcoming action thriller John Wick: Chapter 4.

Lionsgate have announced that they are developing a spinoff film within the world of John Wick, focusing on Donnie Yen’s blind assassin Caine.

While there was no logline revealed along with the announcement, it’s believed that the story will continue following Caine after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, in which the character was freed from his obligations to the High Table.

Adam Fogelson, Chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, released a statement saying:

From the moment Donnie Yen appeared on screen in John Wick: Chapter 4, he captivated audiences and created an authentic, emotional connection that left an indelible mark and had fans asking for more. The John Wick universe that Chad, Basil, Erica, and Keanu have built offers a tapestry of fascinating characters brought to life by the most extraordinary performers, and we’re excited to have one of the world’s biggest superstars on board to continue this journey.

Describing his experience on John Wick: Chapter 4 as ‘extraordinary’, Donnie Yen also released a statement saying:

The reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad, Basil, and Erica push themselves to create action, fights, and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive and artistic, but also expressive of character, story, and emotion. Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role.

The film, which is being written by Robert Askins, is developed as part of Chad Stahelski’s recent deal with Lionsgate to oversee the expansion of the John Wick universe, which will be guided by franchise producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, and Stahelski through his banner 87Eleven Entertainment.
