Saw: Lionsgate Announce Release Date For Eighth Film

Film News - Saw - Lionsgate Announce Release Date for Eighth FilmLionsgate have set a release date for an eighth Saw film, Halloween 2017, unofficially titled Legacy.

This instalment in the Saw franchise will be co-directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, who have directed Daybreakers and Predestination, with production set to commence shooting on the 12th September. The franchise began back in 2004, focusing around John Kramer, also called the Jigsaw Killer or Jigsaw, who traps victims in situations that test their will to live. The original film was directed by James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell, both of whom would go on to have success in the horror genre. The last instalment, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, came out in 2010, with the Saw franchise overall making $873m worldwide.

While I was a fan of the first few Saw films, especially the original, I can’t say that I’m that excited about an eighth film to revitalise the franchise as it pretty much wrapped up the story they wanted to tell, regardless of how much more gory it got in the final instalments. I’ll admit that having the Spierig Brothers on board to direct does intrigue me, I’ll wait for a trailer to be released before deciding whether to see it on cinema or wait for dvd release.

The film is scheduled for cinematic release on the 27th October 2017.
