Netflix have released an announcement trailer for an upcoming anime series adaptation of the popular video game franchise Devil May Cry.

Based on the game, with the first game in the franchise being released by Capcom back in 2001, the anime series will follow the sinister forces at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.

The anime series hails from Studio Mir and comes from Adi Shankar, the creator of the Castlevania anime series, which is also on Netflix. Shankar released a statement saying:

I’m honoured that Netflix and Capcom have entrusted me to shepherd the Devil May Cry franchise. Alex Larsen and I love these characters, we are part of the fandom, and vow to surpass the exceptionally high bar we set for ourselves.

Shankar will be serving as showrunner and will be executive producing alongside Capcom’s Hideaki Itsuno and Studio Mir’s Seung Wook Lee. Alex Larsen will be writing the project.
