Deadline is reporting that Neon is launching sales this week at AFM for the sequel to 2014’s It Follows, titled They Follow, with David Robert Mitchell returning to write and direct, and Maika Monroe will reprise her role as Jay Height.

The original film focused on college student Jay Height, a young woman who’s in a relationship with her boyfriend Hugh. After a few dates the pair have sex in his car and suddenly afterwards Hugh incapacitates Jay with chloroform. She wakes up to find herself tied to a wheelchair while Hugh explains to her what is going on – he has passed on a curse to her through sex, informing her that an entity that can only be seen by those with the curse will pursue her at a walking pace and if it catches up to her, it will kill her and then proceed to go after the person who passed the curse before her.

The film was made on a $1.3m budget, and it grossed over $21m worldwide. The film was a critical darling, and currently it’s still ‘certified fresh’ with a 95% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes (you can also read my review of the film here).

Neon will be co-producing the film alongside Good Fear Content. David Robert Mitchell will serve as producer alongside Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear Content, as well as original producers of It Follows – David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green and Laura Smith.

They Follow is currently scheduled to commence production in 2024.
