Warner Bros. have released the latest trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of the stage musical The Color Purple.

The official synopsis for the film is as follows:

Warner Bros. Pictures invites you to experience the bold new take of the beloved classic ‘The Color Purple, exploring the extraordinary sisterhood of three African-American women and their unbreakable bond whilst living in the south during the early 1900s.

The screenplay is written by Marcus Gardley, with his script based on the novel by Alice Walker, as well as the stage musical play/book by Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. The film is directed by Blitz Bazawule and is produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones.

The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Fantasia Barrino.

The Color Purple is scheduled for cinematic release in the U.S. on the 25th December 2023, whilst in the UK and Ireland is expected to be released on the 26th January 2024.
