Variety is exclusively reporting that a series adaptation of 300 is in early development at Warner Bros. Television.

The report states that while exact plot details are being worked out, sources tell them that the series would serve as a prequel to the 2006 film. The 2006 film is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, which itself is loosely based on real historical events.

The official synopsis of the 2006 film is as follows:

In 480 B.C. a state of war exists between Persia, led by King Xerxes and Greece. At the Battle of Thermopylae, Leonidas, king of the Greek city of Sparta, leads his badly outnumbered warriors against the massive Persian army. Though certain death awaits the Spartans, their sacrifice inspires all of Greece to unite against their common enemy.

The 2006 film was directed by Zack Snyder and starred Gerard Butler, David Wenham, Lena Headey, Dominic West and Rodrigo Santoro, earning more than $456m worldwide at the box office, and spawning a sequel film in 2014 titled 300: Rise Of An Empire.

The report also states that while deals are still being negotiated, Zack Snyder is apparently in talks to direct and executive produce the series with Deborah Snyder, who executive produced the 2006 film, also set to return and executive produce under her and Zack’s Stone Quarry production banner. Stone Quarry’s Wesley Coller is also on board to executive produce. Producers from the 2006 film – Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, and Bernie Goldmann – are also in talks to return.

As this series adaptation is still in early development, that is currently no writer nor platform attached to the project.
