Street Fighter: Danny And Michael Philippou Depart New Film Adaptation

Deadline is exclusively reporting that directors Danny and Michael Philippou are in final negotiations with Legendary to helm the live-action film adaptation of the popular video game franchise Street Fighter.

The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Danny and Michael Philippou, the filmmaking duo behind horror film Talk To Me, are no longer attached to direct the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the popular video game franchise Street Fighter.

Street Fighter, created by Capcom, is one of the most popular fighting video game franchises of all time, beginning as an arcade game in 1987, then shooting in the stratosphere in 1991 with Street Fighter II being released on arcade and multiple consoles. Overall, the video game franchise has sold over 49m units worldwide, with the latest game in the franchise, Street Fighter 6, released last year.

THR claims that sources have informed them that scheduling is partly to blame, with Legendary and Capcom hoping to begin filming sooner rather than later, and Danny and Michael Philippou are currently set to begin filming their latest project, Bring Her Back starring Sally Hawkins, later this month in Australia.

While the report states that they’re looking for a new filmmaker to bring onboard the project, it’s unclear just how soon Legendary and Capcom are hoping to begin production.
