Big casting news from the Star Wars office broke out yesterday and eased the few concerns about the lack of actresses cast in the film by announcing new cast members Oscar winner from 12 Years A Slave Lupita Nyong’o and Game of Thrones Gwendoline Christie have joined Star Wars Episode VII.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy stated:
I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII. It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.
Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie will be joining up with the originals of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and new franchise players John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow.
It’s big news, especially for Gwendoline Christie as not only is she now confirmed for the new Star Wars film, but she’s also been cast in The Hunger Games two-parter Mockingjay, so her star is continuing to rise. Of course Lupita announced as well is huge for her as she’s starting out her career on a high after her Oscar winning role in 12 Years a Slave and followed that up with Non-Stop (which I have yet to see). Now if you can just picture Lupita Nyong’o as a Sith….then everything will be alright. Star Wars Episode VII is set for 18th December 2015.
