Variety is exclusively reporting that Thandie Newton is in negotiations with Disney to join the cast in the upcoming Star Wars standalone film about Han Solo.
The standalone Han Solo film, expected to be called Han Solo: A Star Wars Story in order to distinguish it from the Episode saga, is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. This standalone film portrays Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.
The report states that it’s unknown what role Newton could possibly play. If Newton signs on to join the film, she’ll be joining a cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The yet to be titled Star Wars Han Solo film is scheduled for cinematic release on the 25th May 2018.
