Wonder Woman 2: Patty Jenkins Confirms Kristen Wiig Casting For Sequel

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins confirmed on social media today that Kristen Wiig has been cast as Cheetah for the upcoming sequel.

Last year Wonder Woman has us witnessing Diana, an Amazonian princess, growing up on the paradise island known as Themyscira until one day an Allied intelligence operative named Steve Trevor crashes off the coast of the island, leading to a battle with German forces on the shore. Trevor explains to the Amazons of the war raging in the outside world. Learning of the millions dying in the war, including women and children, Diana leaves her home to fight in the war to end all wars.

On twitter, Patty Jenkins said:

So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. !!!

The confirmation comes after it was reported last week that Wiig was in talks with Warner Bros. and Patty Jenkins for the villain role of Cheetah, a key villain in Wonder Woman history though it’s unknown at this time which particular character from the comics could be portrayed here in the sequel (The characters that have been known as Cheetah: Priscilla Rich, Deborah Domaine, Barbara Ann Minerva and Sebastian Ballesteros).

Now that it is official, it’ll be interesting to see which character Wiig will be playing and how she will interact with Gadot on screen. Wonder Woman 2 is scheduled for cinematic release on the 1st November 2019.
