Birds Of Prey: Ewan McGregor In Talks To Join Cast For DC Film As Black Mask

TheWrap is exclusively reporting that Ewan McGregor is in talks with Warner Bros. to play the role of Gotham City mob boss Black Black in the upcoming DC film Birds of Prey.

In DC Comics, Black Mask is a criminal alias of Roman Sionis, who murdered his wealthy parents in order to take control of the family corporation, then lost everything when he proved to be a terrible businessman. Seeking revenge on the people he blames for his own failures, particularly Bruce Wayne and Wayne Enterprises, he returns to Gotham, hidden behind an ebony black mask, as the head of a gang called the False Face Society. The character was created by Doug Moench and Tom Mandrake, making his first appearance in DC Comics back in 1985.

The project, which has been long in development, as of yet has not had details of its overall plot released.

The script for the project was written by Christina Hodson, with Cathy Yan attached to direct back in April. Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap will be producing with Sue Kroll under her Kroll & Co Entertainment banner and Bryan Unkeless of Clubhouse Pictures.

If McGregor signs for the role, he’ll join a cast that includes Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez.

Birds of Prey is scheduled for cinematic release on the 7th February 2020.
