Variety is exclusively reporting that David Duchovny is set to write, direct, and star in Bucky F*cking Dent, which also happens to be a film based on his own novel of the same name.
The story is set in New York during 1978, following an aimless thirty-something named Ted, who moves back in with his father Marty after learning of his terminal illness. Marty is looking to make up for lost time, but his health seems to deteriorate whenever his beloved Red Sox lose a game. with help from a crew of neighbourhood old-timers and Mariana – Marty’s Nuyorican grief counsellor – Ted orchestrates an intricate plan to provide the illusion of a Sox winning streak to keep Marty’s spirit up (and heart beating).
Duchovny will be playing the role of Marty in the film. The novel was published in 2016. The film is aiming to begin production later this year.
Producers Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman, released a statement saying:
We’re thrilled to be working with David to bring this amazing story to life. His passion and vision for this film are so clear, and the themes of this story – father and son, life and death – are deeply meaningful and universal.
Great Escape will be introducing the project to buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Market.
