Deadline is exclusively reporting that Danny Pino is the latest name to join the cast of Universal’s film adaptation of the Tony award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen.
The film is based on the musical play of the same name, with music and lyrics written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, focuses on Evan Hansen, a high school senior with a severe Social Anxiety disorder, whose letter to himself, one that was not meant to be seen by others, lands into the wrong hands of a fellow classmate who, as a result, commits suicide. This incident sends Evan on a journey of self-discovery and gives him the chance to finally be accepted by his peers and live the life he never dreamed he could have.
Danny Pino (whose credits include BrainDead and Mayans M.C) will be playing the role of the stepfather of the classmate who dies by suicide, a role conceived specially for the film.
Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical, is adapting the screenplay for the big screen, while Stephen Chbosky is attached to direct. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will be producing the project under their Marc Platt Productions banner.
